Three Philosophers

Kang & Jackson (2019- ongoing)

Nature

Three Philosophers is a series of audio-visual interfaces that have been built based on the idea and practice of techno-aesthetic encounters (Kang, Jackson, and Pinch 2022), hightlighting trust-based experiments, error-engaged studio, and art-based ethnography for promoting nonlinear engineering creativity (situated, materially-driven, and multi-sensory). Since 2019, this project has produced three different life-sized wooden sculptures that encourage users to create improvisational audio-visual effects. Diverse old and broken technological materials and ready-made media such as computer fans, broken vinyl, disco-ball, and motors are attached to the sculptures, and these attached components move and light up by interacting with the user's musical expression.
