지금 물질 문명은 그 세력이 날로 융성하고 물질을 사용하는 사람의 정신은 날로 쇠약하여, 개인·가정·사회·국가가 모두 안정을 얻지 못하고 창생의 도탄이 장차 한이 없게 될지니, 세상을 구할 뜻을 가진 우리로서 어찌 이를 범연히 생각하고 있으리요. 옛 성현들도 창생을 위하여 지성으로 천지에 기도하여 천의(天意)를 감동시킨 일이 없지 않나니, 그대들도 이 때를 당하여 전일한 마음과 지극한 정성으로 모든 사람의 정신이 물질에 끌리지 아니하고 물질을 사용하는 사람이 되어주기를 천지에 기도하여 천의에 감동이 있게 하여 볼지어다. 그대들의 마음은 곧 하늘의 마음이라 마음이 한 번 전일하여 조금도 사가 없게 되면 곧 천지로 더불어 그 덕을 합하여 모든 일이 다 그 마음을 따라 성공이 될 것이니, 그대들은 각자의 마음에 능히 천의를 감동시킬 요소가 있음을 알아야 할 것이며, 각자의 몸에 또한 창생을 제도할 책임이 있음을 항상 명심하라.

These days material civilization flourishes daily with immense power, while the human spirit that should be making use of material things has steadily weakened. There is no peace of mind whether at the level of the individual, family, society, or nation, and the suffering of all sentient beings will come to exceed all bounds. How can we, who have set our hearts on saving the world, think lightly of this situation? There have been occasions in the past when the sages prayed to heaven and earth with utmost sincerity to deliver all sentient beings, which moved the will of heaven. Now you, too, must pray to heaven and earth with single-mindedness and utmost sincerity that human beings may become masters of material things instead of being enslaved by them, and thus try to move the will of heaven. Your mind is none other than that of heaven; hence, you should know that if your mind is concentrated and completely devoid of selfishness, its virtues will become as one with the virtues of heaven and earth and it will lead all your affairs to success. Therefore, you must realize that each of your minds possesses an element that can move the will of heaven, and always remember that each of you has a responsibility to deliver all sentient beings.

세가지 원칙 (Three Tenets)

I. 세상을 널리 이롭게 하라.
(Benefit the world broadly.)
II. 물질이 개벽하니 정신을 개벽하라.
(With this great opening of matter, let there be a great opening of spirit.)
III. 부처를 만나면 부처를 쏴라.
(If you meet a Buddha, shoot the Buddha.)
